Apple launch iPhone 5 last week with mix response from the market. Mix response is more of negative side and less of positive side from different media and gizmo experts. Many users are disappointed by iPhone 5 launching event due to many different reasons. Let’s analyse some of the key factors to know where apple missed the opportunity this year for effective iPhone 5 launch.
Factor A : Only Enhancement No Innovation
Apple created very high expectation in the market as they have grand success of iPhone 5 and iOS 5 in last year. Majority features are introduced in the market during last keynotes so there is no niche concept are there to introduce. They upgrade their pre existing features like A6 chip, SIRI, Microphone, Ere-Pod etc. Also they introduce [ So called Introduced ] features like Apple’s own MAP and Panorama. however Map features is also an enhancement of google base satellite view for end user. And Panorama was available on many camera applications for iPhone. So Its more of enhancement of features and less of innovation of features in to iPhone. Apple might tried to overcome this by enhancing camera to 12 or 10 Mega pixel.
Factor B – Leaked Concepts and High Expectation :
Apple use to keep high security for their hardware devices in terms of designing and looks. This year some of manufacturers licked images and even phone start up video with their USP like feature of 4 inch retina display. Not only that many of other concept builder designed far better and innovative design of proposed new iPhone 5 then actual launched one. So after watching highly creative concept this simple design with out more modification do not appeal or impact effectively to the market.
Factor C – No Steve Jobs Effect :
Steve Jobs has capability to present things with wow effect. Steve Jobs was known as innovator and we miss innovation lot this year with iPhone 5 designing and software features. This year only enhancement took place and that is also not new to Mobile industry. LTE concept already runs in to Android base phones for high speed connectivity. 4 Inch display is now common for even law budget and china made phone in the market. Nokia Lumia 920 Windows phone which just launched is giving more PPI [232 ppi] then Retina Display’s 226 PPI of iPhone 5. High budget phone starts with 4.5 Inch and more display size. So that factor missed the impact to touch buyer’s mind.
Factor D- UI and UX related Technical Limitation with 4 inch design :
Some of the enhancement are there with iOS 6 from software prospective, but that was released few months ago. So nothing new in terms of software this year with it. just 0.5 Inch bigger display impact was there for apple to create buzz however it was turn in to negative while we come to know that application which are not yet designed for 4 inch display are going to played in 3.5 inc size only. Why should you carry extra part of phone if its not able to be utilized at full screen ?
Factor E- LTE speed up to 150 MB is not available with 85 % of the providers :
Its good to have high speed internet without wifi with CDMA enabled chip, however this technology is not available in 85% country where iPhone 5 is going to launch by December 2012. So it’s more of on paper advantage then on hand advantage for the end user for many countries.
Personally I will buy it after December for two purpose, one is A6 chip so I get better battery ba and another one is for Testing applications from clients for 4.0 Inch enhancement. I see opportunity here for Mobile web design and ios development companies as lots of business will be chunk in from current application owners for make their application compatible with iPhone 5. Market image of iPhone will show good opening again due to branding of Apple but for long term it is going to show downfall in sales volume until iPhone 5s or 6 got introduced.
